GDPR OVERVIEW

This page is here to provide our readers and customers with a broad overview - in easy-to-understand language - about our approach to the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). More formal GDPR terms are set forth hereinbelow.

WHAT IS GDPR?

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. It’s a massive new regulation impacting data protection and privacy for all people in the European Union. GDPR went into effect in May 2018.

WHO IS IMPACTED?

Every company that does business with anyone in the European Union is required to be compliant. Simply having one website visitor from the E.U. means we need to be.

WHAT HAS BISNOW DONE ABOUT GDPR?

We take this regulation seriously. In preparation for the incoming regulation, we have:

Appointed a Data Protection Officer. You can email them at info@strongonhealth.com with questions.
Engaged an attorney to audit our GDPR preparations and data security and make recommendations to increase our data security, protocols and transparency.
Conducted a company-wide Data Protection Impact Assessment and have committed to conducting a DPIA every time we add new technology to our employees’ workflow.
Confirmed that as of May 1, 2018, with our technology partners that our servers that run our Website are GDPR-compliant and have added language to our contracts to make sure any future partners are, as well.
Trained ourselves to understand security risks, how personal information can be transferred, and what to do if a breach is suspected.
WHY IS STRONG ON HEALTH EMAILING ME? ISN’T THAT ILLEGAL?

One common misconception is that GDPR forbids companies from emailing individuals. That’s not entirely the case. There are “lawful basis” rationales for why businesses like Strong On Health can email individuals. One exception is the “legitimate interest” basis. Because Strong On Health contacts medical practitioners in medical-related industries and provides articles and information that advance people in this profession, our communications fall within the legitimate interest category. All of the individuals we email are those who, to the best of our knowledge, work in industries related to such profession. You can read our full lawful basis statement below.

WHAT IF I DON’T WANT STRONG ON HEALTH’S EMAILS?

We have always — and will continue to always — made it easy for readers to unsubscribe. In light of GDPR, we’ve made it even more simple and clear. Every bulk email Strong On Health sends will include unsubscribe options in the footer. Emails from individual employees at Strong On Health will always include a link to our privacy policy.

HOW DO I DELETE MY INFORMATION COMPLETELY?

GDPR mandates that Strong On Health make it easy for users to be “forgotten.” Beyond just unsubscribing, individuals can request to be forgotten by making a request via email to info@strongonhealth.com.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?

We are here to help. You can always email Strong On Health’s Data Protection Officer at info@strongonhealth.com.

GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR) LEGAL TERMS

Lawful Basis

GDPR allows for the use of direct marketing so long as an organization establishes and documents what is known as a “Lawful Basis” for its processing activities. All Strong On Health emails include clear Opt Out instructions which are readily and clearly available, should a individual wish to stop receiving any Strong On Health emails. Strong On Health’s “Lawful Basis” falls under what is known as “Legitimate Interest” whereby, under Recital 47 of GDPR, the processing of personal data for direct marketing purposes may be regarded as carried out for a legitimate interest.

In addition, Strong On Health gains an additional Lawful Basis by receiving “Consent” through a user’s agreement to Strong On Health’s Terms and Conditions when signing up to become a subscriber or by purchasing a product, or by subscribing to our articles. Separate from the direct marketing activities, Strong On Health must provide a legitimate interest for processing employee data. This processing also falls under “Legitimate Interest” whereby processing is necessary for operational, administrative, HR and recruitment purposes and to otherwise manage employment relationship and interaction between employees.

Data Policies

Under GDPR, data subjects are afforded the right to access their data, correct their data, restrict the processing of their data and to request erasure of their data from Strong On Health’s systems. All individual data is maintained until requested erasure. Data subjects may request their records or request to be deleted via the Settings page on their profile while logged in, or by emailing Strong On Health’s Data Protection Officer at info@strongonhealth.com.
